About Travis Kenny
Travis Kenny, is an American singer and songwriter who once heard, is not easily forgotten. His whimsical Pacific Northwest roots flow through The Glides original compositions. With a fresh voice filled with soulful ease, Travis Kenny is a consummate wordsmith and musician blending his first hand experiences of distant places traveled within his life.
A singer is just a singer, but Travis Kenny is an entertainer. He is a man who started as a gospel singer at the age of 4, and won actor of the year at his High School. He has literally been entertaining people his entire life. With his roots always in music, Travis joined his first rock band at the age of 15 with some other members of his school’s jazz band. After high school, he even tried his hand at the sporting life, playing offensive left tackle for the Bulldogs of Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California.
After college, Kenny found himself living in a place and time where Seattle music had literally taken over the world. From 1994-1998, Kenny became a part of that scene, fronting the Seattle Grunge Band, Jelly Finger. The band would go on to score regional hits with the songs “Law” and “Hunt”.
Travis also became half of a long running punk rock comedy duo known as Who Cares during these years. The act existed in many forms from 1992 until almost 2009. At the height of their success, Who Cares toured all over North America. After leaving Who Cares at the end of 2008, Travis embarked on a solo music career.
It was during this time that Travis taught himself how to play guitar
and recorded two solo albums of acoustic music. Combining his new
found talents with his background in comedy Travis recorded his smash, comedy album Spokane released in 2012. In support of his album he
embarked on a tour that brought his unique blend of acoustic guitar
and comedy to casinos throughout the United States.
In 2014, he moved to Phoenix, playing his unique style of punk rock comedy in The Valley’s robust skate punk scene. During this time, Travis began to meeting many members of the local music scene including three guys named Mark, Paul, and Rikki. Wanting to change direction with his music, Travis hand selected his three favorite musicians that he had met in Phoenix to form The Glides and the rest has been history.
“We are four guys who love to play music and when the band came together, it was one of those things that just worked right away. We had all played in other bands and we were working on other projects at the time, but nothing had really taken off yet. Once the four of us came together, the whole became something much greater than the sum of our individual parts. The Glides are renaissance men. Collectively, our skills and talents culminate into a fresh alternative, retro, groove sound that, from the beginning, has been the reason ‘It’s Good to Be a Glide.”
